Fifth and sixth grade Cubs participate in Garfield's Student Relations Council (HRC) under the direction of Mrs. Tan. HRC promotes positive inter-group relations and assistance in problem resolution on campus. They plan and facilitate activities and programs on campus that celebrate diversity and promote tolerance. This year HRC will focus on quarterly activities and initiatives to promote tolerance and celebrate diversity.
Appreciation Station
Students are encouraged to write appreciation notes to teachers, staff, and each other. Once written, letters are delivered to the recipients. This activity fosters gratitude and kindness across the campus.
Socktober
Human Relations Council and their advisor Linda Elia collected 2,000 pairs of new socks that they donated to the Poverello House and the Marjaree Mason Center.
School Beautification
HRC worked together to beautify Garfield by planting colorful flowers near the ampitheater.
Garfield ensures that ALL students are fully engaged in the programs and activities of the school. Participation data is reported, monitored, and reviewed. Garfield actively recruits diverse students for the non-elected leadership groups on campus.
